"It's always interested me that the word 'care' is built into the word 'career,'" says Jan, who has been in the nursing profession since 1980 and at Glenmeadow since 2004. She coordinates clients' personal-care needs from the initial meeting through development and implementation of an individual service plan, to making sure the client is satisfied with the care.
A certified gerontological RN, Jan finds "great joy and interest in caring about and for our elders. I enjoy learning about their life experiences and how they have affected their present life situations." In coordinating seniors' care, she strives "to keep in mind that an individual's mind, body, and spiritual needs must be kept in balance."
And that care continues, whatever a senior needs--even if that means leaving Glenmeadow. When a client with Glenmeadow at Home needed to move to a skilled nursing facility, Jan arranged the transfer to a facility near the client's family in Texas, and accompanied the woman on her flight to Texas. Jan says she enjoyed "sharing in the family's goal of relocating her with a minimum of stress to them both."
Jan keeps her own stress level down by avid reading (often with cat Schatze on her lap) and enjoying music, art, theatre, and dance. She is the mother of two adult children, and longs to travel around the Scandinavian fjords.
